We have a large Oil & Gas company looking to contract hire a HSSE Advisor to support health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) initiatives for a large-scale dredging and civil works project.

ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Project HSSE Manager, this position emphasizes ensuring compliance with all HSSE regulations and company policies, striving for zero incidents throughout the project's duration. The role involves close collaboration with contractors and subcontractors to validate and enhance HSSE practices, ensuring alignment with project goals and safety standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support and implement both corporate and project-specific HSSE policies and procedures.
  • Use "Stop Work Authority" to address unsafe behavior or conditions.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to field personnel on identifying and mitigating HSSE risks.
  • Conduct audits, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the field to support safety initiatives.
  • Assist with incident investigations and develop lessons learned.
  • Facilitate onboarding for new team members and provide ongoing HSSE support.
  • Foster strong relationships with field personnel and contractors to promote a culture of safety.
  • Ensure timely and accurate HSSE reporting for all project activities.

Essential skills and knowledge 

REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of HSSE experience on dredging or civil works projects.
  • Familiarity with Owner/Client-side HSSE requirements is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office for preparing reports and presentations.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Knowledge of USACE and Coast Guard regulations.
  • Ability to assess job site hazards and perform safety audits in confined spaces and on floating platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to coach and influence teams at all levels.

Certifications and Credentials:

  • Certification in Safety & Health or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • TSA TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
