Supporting new technologies + Women in STEM

Brunel is a proud sponsor of Fairholme College's participation in the Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP), supporting the school's efforts to engage young women in STEM through hands-on experience with hydrogen-powered vehicle technology. Starting in 2024, Fairholme College’s participation in the H2GP program has given students access to practical hydrogen and energy experiments as well as the materials to build, optimise and race their own hydrogen-powered remote control vehicles.

This initiative is a perfect opportunity to educate secondary students on emerging renewable energy technologies, to engage young women in STEM concepts and pathways and hopefully inspire some of tomorrow’s energy experts.

Promoting gender diversity in STEM

As a specialist in engineering and highly-technical fields, Brunel has experienced the relative scarcity of female candidates in STEM fields, and employers’ desire to correct this gender imbalance within their teams. Bridging this gap will require generational change and needs to start by exposing female students to these concepts before they select their tertiary direction. By sponsoring Fairholme College's all-female teams, we seek to challenge gender stereotypes and inspire young women to pursue careers in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Supporting renewable energy education

The H2GP program’s provision of hands-on experience with hydrogen fuel cell technology helps educate the upcoming generation on the potential application of new and unfamiliar energy sources. By supporting Fairholme College's involvement, Brunel helps students gain practical knowledge in sustainable technologies, preparing them for future roles in the evolving energy sector.
