Introduction

We are currently hiring a Plant Accounting Supervisor for our lubricant's client in Mississauga, ON. You will be responsible for managing a team of three accountants and analysts, ensuring accurate financial data, compliance with industry regulations, and efficient financial processes. This role requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of refinery operations, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. This is a full-time permanent opportunity.

What are you going to do 

  • Manage and mentor a team of accountants and analysts, providing guidance and support in their daily tasks.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Plant Accounting department, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting, and tank inventory and plant unit balancing.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Oversee the preparation of and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the refinery.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and SOX.
  • Assist VP Operations Mississauga and Sr. Advisor Finance in developing the Rack Back budget.
  • Maintain and enforce internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure compliance with government environmental regulations.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Collaborate with operations, procurement, and other departments to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
  • Monitor tank inventory levels and valuation, and plant unit balancing ensuring accurate recording and reporting of feedstock and base oils.
  • Review and approve capital expenditure requests, ensuring alignment with budgetary constraints and strategic goals.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the accounting function.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in accounting and refinery operations.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience. Experience in a supervisory capacity would be preferred.
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry, specifically in refinery accounting, is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of Accounting Principles, financial reporting, and audit
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Experience with SAP and BW/BI would be an asset
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Hybrid role - onsite in office minimum 3 days a week
  • Office environment within a refinery setting.
  • Occasional travel to Lakeshore office
  • Occasional travel to Dallas head office and/or other US plant locations as required
