Introduction

Brunel is currently seeking an experienced Team Lead, Surface Projects to support the planning and execution of sustaining capital and operational improvement projects within a large-scale industrial environment.

What are you going to do

  • Lead surface capital and sustaining capital projects from initiation through construction, commissioning, and final handover.
  • Provide leadership and coordination across mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, instrumentation, and operational disciplines.
  • Serve as a key point of contact between operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and project teams.
  • Support project planning, scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions related to safety, cost, schedule, quality, or execution concerns.
  • Conduct regular site walks and field inspections to confirm work is progressing safely and efficiently.
  • Lead project meetings, look-ahead planning sessions, and stakeholder reviews.
  • Manage contractor performance and ensure compliance with site standards, project requirements, and safety expectations.
  • Support procurement activities, equipment coordination, and construction-readiness planning.
  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks, opportunities, scope changes, and change requests.
  • Prepare regular project updates and reports, providing clear information and decision support to project and operational leadership.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the field and actively promote a strong safety culture.
  • Build effective working relationships with operational, maintenance, engineering, construction, and contractor personnel.
  • Support the successful transition of completed work into operations and maintenance.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Minimum of five years of experience leading and delivering capital projects within mining, industrial, energy, or other heavy industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project teams through the full project lifecycle.
  • Strong understanding of surface operations and brownfield project environments.
  • Experience managing contractors, construction activities, and field execution.
  • Proven ability to manage project scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and corporate project teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project controls tools.
  • Valid driver's licence and the ability to access active industrial and construction sites.
  • Engineering degree, engineering technology diploma, or an equivalent technical background is preferred.
  • PMP designation or another recognized project management certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting mining, potash, mineral processing, or other large industrial operations is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of SAP, Primavera P6, Power BI, or comparable project and reporting systems is considered an asset.
  • Ability to maintain a regular on-site presence of at least three days per week
