Introduction

On behalf of our client, we are seeking a Lead Designer to deliver plant layouts, models, and design compliance while leading drafting teams on major projects from study through to execution. This is a contract position and will be based in their Perth office.

What are you going to do

  • Maintain commitment to safety standards and industry best practice.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant regulations, codes, procedures, processes, specifications, and standards.
  • Produce high-quality models and design drawings based on engineering calculations and sketches.
  • Develop plant layouts from project data, basis of design, and other inputs.
  • Review vendor drawings, models, and design data for accuracy and compliance.
  • Monitor project schedule and budget for assigned work areas.
  • Track and manage progress of drawings produced by supervised drafting personnel.
  • Supervise and allocate design/drafting resources to achieve deliverables.
  • Collaborate effectively across business units and disciplines.
  • Present developed 3D models and drawings to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to project reviews, including design, functional safety, risk, cost estimate, and schedule reviews.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering Design Drafting.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical design/drafting, preferably in mining and mineral processing.
  • Strong expertise in plant layout design and detailing (materials handling & process plants).
  • Proficiency with 2D and 3D design software (Bentley products or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience of drafting personnel.
  • Understanding of fabrication and construction techniques relevant to materials handling and mineral processing industries.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Effective teamwork and collaboration skills in multi-disciplinary environments.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and motivated to meet changing project requirements and timelines.
