Introduction

We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Specialist to join a Tier One mining client delivering major expansion projects in the Pilbara. This role is vital in ensuring the safe execution of high-risk field activities over the next five years. As part of the Development & Technology Pilbara Projects Team, you will support project delivery from feasibility to construction, collaborating closely with contractors and operations teams.

What are you going to do 

As the Health and Safety Specialist, you will provide leadership and oversight for safety performance across multiple major projects. Acting as a key liaison between contractors and operations teams, you'll coach and mentor project teams, lead incident investigations, and ensure alignment with corporate HSEQ standards. Your role will be instrumental in promoting a zero-harm culture and driving continuous improvement across the portfolio.

  • Implement the Safety Maturity Model, Fatality Prevention, and Critical Risk Management programs
  • Mentor, coach, and lead contractor safety personnel across multiple project sites
  • Facilitate and support incident investigations, audits, and risk assessments
  • Provide HSE support and guidance to project managers, superintendents, and contractors
  • Monitor safety performance trends and develop initiatives to address emerging risks
  • Conduct internal audits and identify gaps against performance standards
  • Oversee compliance with WHS regulations and the HSEQ Management System
  • Coordinate with project leaders to ensure safe project execution and interface management
  • Develop and deliver safety training and risk management tools to enhance team capability
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Champion the delivery of safety KPIs and reporting across the team

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health & Safety (or equivalent experience in a specialist HSE role)
  • Extensive experience in mining, construction, or heavy industry
  • Strong experience in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant field
  • Section 26 Supervisor Ticket or SSE Ticket
  • Audit qualification and experience conducting HSEQ audits
  • Cert IV in Workplace Training & Assessment
  • Risk Facilitation certification or proven facilitation experience
  • Frontline Management certification or equivalent experience in leading safety team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in: Hazard identification and risk assessment, Incident investigation and root cause analysis, HSE reporting, coaching, and training
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing
  • Current WA Manual C-Class Driver's Licence
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical, national police clearance (within 6 months), and hold full Australian working right
