Introduction

The Derrickhand is a vital member of the drilling crew, assisting in all drilling operations. They work in the derrick during tripping and casing runs, and maintain drilling fluid and equipment while drilling ahead. Skilled in manual tasks and safety, they follow correct procedures to support and ensure the successful execution of the drilling program within a team environment.

What are you going to do 

  • Assist drilling crew with all operations, including loading/unloading casing and derrick work
  • Maintain drilling fluid properties, mud system, and related equipment as directed
  • Mix mud to specifications and perform tests under Mud Engineer's guidance
  • Diagnose and repair mud system equipment malfunctions
  • Keep accurate logs of mud properties and daily drilling reports
  • Supervise and train crew members on safety and operational procedures
  • Enforce safety standards and report unsafe conditions promptly
  • Participate in safety drills, emergency procedures, and maintain personal safety gear
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas
  • Comply with HSE policies and support quality assurance improvements
  • Work reasonable overtime as required
  • Maintain technical manuals and contribute to team training compliance
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Minimum of two years in the drilling industry (Preferred)
  • Minimum one year as Lead Floorman or above (Preferred)

Qualifications:

  • Certificate II in Drilling - Oil/Gas Onshore
  • Certificate III in Drilling - Oil/Gas Onshore
  • Front End Loader Ticket
  • 4x4 Operate Vehicles in the Field
  • Senior First Aid & CPR
  • Vertical / Tower Rescue
  • Breathing Apparatus
  • Confined Space Training
  • Gas Testing and Monitoring
  • Occupational First Aid
  • Working At Heights
