Introduction

We are seeking a Communications Systems Specialist to support the ongoing operational health and maintenance of OT networks and RF communications infrastructure in a mining environment. Reporting to site-based OT leadership, this FIFO role is responsible for maintaining reliable wireless communications that support safe and efficient mining operations.

What are you going to do

The Communications Systems Specialist is responsible for maintaining and supporting Operational Technology networks and RF communications infrastructure. The role focuses on system performance, preventative maintenance, fault resolution and continuous improvement of site communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor wireless communication system performance and overall infrastructure integrity.

  • Proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement across communications systems.

  • Analyse equipment failure trends and recommend replacement equipment or components.

  • Monitor signal strength of wireless communications across active operational areas.

  • Provide technical support to onboard maintenance teams for communication hardware faults.

  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections on trailer and tower communications infrastructure.

  • Relocate communication trailers as required to maintain effective radio coverage.

  • Respond to and complete incidents and service requests via the ServiceNow system.

  • Maintain fleet map accuracy, including administration of the TETRA digital radio database.

  • Support communications-related project work as directed by project supervisors.

  • Provide on-call support for network and communications fault resolution.

  • Provide feedback on fault resolution outcomes and system status.

  • Contribute technical input to planning and optimisation of mine communication infrastructure.

This position operates on a FIFO 8 days on / 6 days off roster, flying ex-Perth.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Certificate IV in communications or an electrical trade as a minimum.

  • Working at Heights and Elevated Work Platform certifications.

  • Current C Class manual driver's licence.

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical, electronics or communications roles.

  • Experience supporting Cisco wireless networks.

  • Experience with TETRA digital two-way radio systems.

  • Experience with MineStar fleet management systems.

  • Previous LTE experience highly desirable.
