Brunel are partnered with a leading resource company to deliver the best work opportunities for IT & Technical professionals within Australia. We are currently seeking Senior Data Scientist - to work on a contract basis on an exciting project.

About this role

The key mission of this role will be to develop and deliver AI solutions & systems that transform the capability and coordination of one of the largest vertically integrated mine, rail and port operations in the world. The right candidate will bring a strong curiosity and technical perspective to these challenges, including experience in data science and AI algorithm & system design, along with a drive for delivering outcomes and working software in cross-functional teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, development and implementation of AI systems to drive productivity in our integrated operations across mine, rail and port
  • Helping identify, quantify and validate efficiency and productivity opportunities for AI systems using data from a wide range of sources
  • Engaging and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to shape AI system requirements
  • Maintaining the backlogs for AI solution & system development, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to prioritise their development
  • Staying up to date with developments in AI & ML, and incorporating new techniques and technologies into our AI system design

Is this you?

  • An advanced degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning or engineering
  • Experience (4+ years) in data science and AI solution & system development with mining and heavy industrial operations applications preferred
  • Strong understanding and practical experience in statistics and machine learning, including causal inference and experimental design
  • Strong knowledge of data science tools and technologies, including programming languages such as Python
  • Experience in NLP and LLMs is well regarded
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts within a multi-disciplinary product team

  • Experience in SQL and platforms such as Snowflake is well regarded
