What are you going to do

  • Ensure that the designers have identified a safe method for construction for unusual or complex designs, and that the designs include the information needed by other designers and contractors to allow them to work safely and without risk to health.
  • This information needs to be clear and concise
  • Ensure that the requirements of the designer's duties have been addressed and that the different design elements work together without causing danger.
  • This is best achieved through design reviews during which health and safety issues are addressed alongside practicality and cost in a wider review of the design's building safety issues, maintainability, and usability
  • Ensure that CDM considerations must be integrated within the design and weighed alongside other considerations, including cost, fitness for purpose, functionality, and aesthetics, building safety issues, maintainability, and environmental impact
  • Make sure that the Designs Department and Design Consultants are aware of the client duties under CDM 2015 before starting any design work
  • Make sure that the Design Consultants take account of any pre-construction information provided by the Designs Department and or in general
  • Eliminate foreseeable health and safety risks to anyone affected by the project (if possible). Take steps to reduce or control any risks that cannot be eliminated
  • Provide design information to Design Consultants (if involved), for inclusion in the pre-construction information and the health and safety file.
  • Communicate, cooperate, and coordinate with: Design Consultants so that all designs are compatible and ensure health and safety, both during the project and beyond

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor's in Engineering from a recognized university
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.
  • Chartered Membership Status IOSH (CMIOSH) - preferred. 15 years relevant experience in design and construction
  • Deep understanding of the Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS) and relevant legislation in the State of Qatar
  • Deep understanding of relevant Health & Safety International legislations
  • Deep understanding of Health and Safety Legislation and CDM 2015
