Introduction

We are currently hiring a Senior Risk Assessor for our environmental consulting client in Alberta. You will be responsible for interpreting environmental data and applying regulatory guidelines to assess and manage risk at contaminated sites. This role involves data analysis, technical reporting, project planning, and mentorship within a multidisciplinary team. This is a full-time permanent opportunity.

What are you going to do 

Responsibilities

  • Interpret field and laboratory data to support environmental risk assessments.
  • Apply Tier 1 and Tier 2 regulatory soil and groundwater guidelines to identify exceedances.
  • Analyze data from complex sites to develop Tier 2 guidelines using the Subsoil Salinity Tool (SST) or other site-specific approaches.
  • Prepare Phase 2 Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) sampling plans.
  • Draft and review technical reports prior to client submission.
  • Assist in planning and executing environmental assessment and remediation programs.
  • Provide guidance to field teams during assessment and remediation activities.
  • Foster strong working relationships with clients, vendors, and internal team members.
  • Mentor intermediate staff and collaborate with professionals across disciplines, including agrologists, geologists, hydrogeologists, and geophysicists.
  • Support the development and management of project workplans, including cost estimates, schedules, vendor coordination, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
  • Deliver projects on time and within approved budgets.
  • Contribute to the creation of internal policies and standard operating procedures.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) in environmental science, biology, soil science, engineering, geology, or hydrogeology.
  • Certification for use of the Subsoil Salinity Tool (SST).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in risk assessment or relevant Tier 2/SST work.
  • Professional designation (possessed, in progress, or eligible) with AIA, APEGA, or ASPB.
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
