What are you going to do

The Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer provides technical oversight and stewardship of instrumentation and controls engineering activities performed internally and by Contractors and subcontractors. This role ensures that engineering deliverables comply with project specifications, company standards, and applicable regulatory requirements while supporting safe, efficient, and cost-effective project execution.

The I&C Engineer works closely with the Project Team, Contractors, and internal stakeholders to coordinate engineering activities, resolve technical issues, manage deviations, and maintain clear communication on progress, risks, and execution concerns. Strong technical expertise combined with effective communication and interpersonal skills is essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and coordinate instrumentation and controls engineering deliverables in alignment with project objectives, procedures, and execution plans.

  • Evaluate and comment on I&C engineering work performed by Contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with contract technical specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Review and approve discipline design drawings and technical documents, including control philosophies, loop diagrams, I/O lists, specifications, and vendor data.

  • Coordinate and communicate technical, safety, and regulatory issues between Company and Contractor engineering teams.

  • Identify, assess, and document deviations from Contract Technical Specifications and regulatory requirements; ensure deviations are processed in accordance with project procedures.

  • Maintain and steward the Instrumentation and Controls Deviation Control Log.

  • Steward technical queries and requests for information from Contractors and subcontractors.

  • Keep the Lead Engineer or Engineering Manager informed of I&C engineering progress, deviations, risks, and execution issues.

  • Participate in instrumentation and controls engineering reviews at Contractor and subcontractor locations, as required.

  • Drive and promote capital efficiency through sound I&C engineering and design decisions.

  • Support internal engineering initiatives and global practice activities as requested by the Supervisor.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Controls Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Broad knowledge of instrumentation and controls design standards, specifications, applicable codes, and safety requirements.

  • Experience reviewing Contractor engineering deliverables for compliance, quality, and constructability.

  • Ability to manage tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and changing priorities in a fast-paced project environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Fluent in spoken and written English, particularly for technical and business communication.
