Job Title: Senior Process Engineer

Location: Houston, TX

Industry: Engineering & Construction (E&C)

Position Overview:

The Senior Process Engineer reports to the Staff Process Engineer in the Engineering & Construction department and advises on all matters related to process design and technology within E&C projects. Experience in Process Safety is desirable to support the Process Safety team in design. The Senior Process Engineer will provide oversight across project design, permitting, construction, commissioning, start-up, and operations support for projects managed within the E&C department.

Knowledge Requirements:

In-depth understanding of fluid flow, heat transfer, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and hydrocarbon process chemistry.

Familiarity with the hazards of hydrocarbon processes and safety methods for process facilities.

Experience in LNG process engineering and design.

Knowledge of process safety for gas processing, natural gas, and LNG (or other cryogenic hydrocarbon liquids) transportation and storage.

Competency in process simulation software such as Aspen HYSYS and Unisim Design.

Familiarity with NRU and Carbon Capture technologies.

Knowledge of industry standards (API, NFPA) and regulations.

Understanding of Process Hazard Analysis (HAZID, HAZOPS, LOPA) and facility siting studies.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

Process and Process Safety Responsibilities:

  1. Provide process and process safety engineering support for LNG, NRU, and Carbon Capture projects through their full life cycle, including design, construction, commissioning, start-up, and operations.
  2. Collaborate with other discipline engineers to manage engineering contractors in project design and development.
  3. Support regulatory and environmental departments with timely project permitting submissions.
  4. Participate in Process Hazard Analyses, HAZIDs, HAZOPS, LOPA, facility siting studies, and Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews.
  5. Develop or review process simulations in Aspen HYSYS for project design reviews and strategic planning.
  6. Ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications in process design.
  7. Provide process and process safety engineering guidance to internal departments or stakeholders, including corporate development and strategy.
  8. Develop Process Basis of Design, Technical Statement of Requirements, and project design scopes.

General Responsibilities:

Serve as the Senior Process/Process Safety Engineer for E&C projects.

Conduct plant site visits to assess project layout and coordinate with site operations.

Work with technology vendors for design development and technology options.

Collaborate with O&M departments to capture lessons learned from major projects.

Support the development of procedures and training related to capital projects and compliance.

Review and provide technical feedback on project deliverables such as PFDs, P&IDs, HMBs, process calculations, and facility models.

Skills:

- Exceptional teamwork and communication skills.

- Sensitivity to safety issues in hazardous environments.

- Ability to effectively communicate at all organizational levels and with diverse groups.

- Proficiency in process simulation software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Work Conditions:

Primarily office-based work.

Occasional work from home or after normal hours as needed.

Limited travel to plant sites.

Subject to drug and alcohol testing as required.

Essential skills and knowledge 

Qualifications:

Education and Certifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. A Professional Engineer's (PE) License is a plus.

Experience:

- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in engineering design, contractor management, or operations, preferably with LNG projects or facilities.

- Experience in process safety studies is preferred.
