Senior Drilling Engineer

Responsible for the planning, design, and execution of drilling operations in support of the company's upstream exploration and development objectives. This position plays a key role in ensuring that all drilling activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and corporate policies.
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams-including geoscience, completions, subsurface, HSE, and operations-the Senior Drilling Engineer will develop comprehensive drilling programs, prepare cost estimates and AFEs, evaluate well designs, and provide technical support during rig operations. The role will also involve contractor interface management, risk identification and mitigation, and continuous performance improvement through the application of lessons learned and operational best practices.
Strong background in both onshore and offshore drilling environments, with a proven ability to manage complex wells such as HPHT, extended-reach, or deepwater. Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving capability, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence are essential for success in this role.
Lead the design and planning of drilling programs for development and/or exploration wells, ensuring alignment with subsurface objectives and company standards.
Prepare detailed drilling engineering documentation including Basis of Design (BoD), well proposals, drilling programs, AFE (Authorization for Expenditure), and time & cost estimates.
Conduct well design analysis including casing design, hydraulics, BHA selection, torque and drag modeling, and well control planning.
Evaluate and select appropriate drilling technologies, tools, and services to optimize well performance and minimize NPT (Non-Productive Time).
Liaise with subsurface, completions, HSE, supply chain, and operations teams to ensure integrated planning and seamless execution.
Provide real-time technical support and troubleshooting during drilling operations, working closely with Rig Site Supervisors and the Drilling Superintendent.
Conduct risk assessments, develop mitigation plans, and ensure all engineering deliverables meet HSE, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Participate in technical peer reviews, DWOP (Drilling Well on Paper), and post-well reviews to capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement.
Interface with drilling contractors, third-party service providers, and regulatory authorities to ensure operational readiness and compliance.
Monitor daily drilling performance and generate performance tracking reports and lookbacks for continuous improvement initiatives.
Support the evaluation of offset well data, geological hazards, and pore pressure prediction for upcoming wells.
Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant engineering disciplines.
Minimum 12 years of experience in drilling engineering, with at least 7 years in offshore drilling operations.
Proven experience in HPHT, deepwater, or extended reach well planning and execution.
Proficient in drilling engineering software such as Landmark (Compass, WellPlan), Drillbench, and other relevant tools.
Strong knowledge of well design, casing and tubing design, hydraulics, cementing, drilling fluids, and well control.
Valid IWCF Well Control certificate - Supervisor Level.
Familiar with international drilling standards (API, ISO) and best practices.
Hands-on experience supporting rig operations and providing real-time engineering support.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project planning skills.
Excellent communication and technical reporting skills in English.
Ability to work in cross-functional, multicultural teams in a fast-paced environment.
Offshore survival and HSE certifications (e.g., BOSIET/FOET) are a plus.
Willing to work on-site or in rotation schedules as required by the project.
