Introduction

The QA Technician position it to ensure the quality of parts and components received, and to ensure they meet standards or specifications set out by the manufactures. The QA tech will also proactively deal with suppliers (N. America and Intl.) to ensure they are able to meet quality needs. They will works as part of the Production team and report to the Production Manager, as well as act as liaison and main point of contact between the Quality function and other departments.

What are you going to do 

  • Inspect, measure or test incoming material, components and parts to a set standard or specification. Communicating results of tests to the necessary persons in various formats be they reports, meetings or in another manner, and ensure all information is processed in a timely fashion through Epicor (ERP system);
  • Highlight product received that is outside finish, assembly or testing specifications. Advise either the Material Review Board or relevant supplier as the case may be to determine resolution;
  • Liaise with supplier's Quality Assurance departments or personnel to ensure issues are handled in a prompt manner or avoided all together. This can include but not be limited to site inspections, recommended supplier check lists, quality jigs and procedures;
  • Recommend changes to design or drawings that are incorrect or lacking relevant information;
  • Receive, verify and release all RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) to the appropriate department;
  • Keep all gauges and test equipment used for monitoring quality calibrated and properly maintained. Clean and maintain work area. Maintain proper inventory of materials used in own area;
  • Contribute to initiatives relating to internal process quality, including defining, set up and monitoring;
  • Assist other teams as necessary. Contribute to sessions on design or assembly improvement.
  • Work closely with Production to resolve internal Quality issues in assembly or testing;
  • Provide on-the job training to new and existing employees as required.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • CEGEP diploma or equivalent in a related technical field;
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings;
  • 5 years of experience in a quality capacity in a manufacturing or assembly environment
  • Experience in Inspection of supplier's site to validate installations and quality control
  • Knowledge of gas equipment or appliances an asset;
  • Knowledge of electricity, wiring and ability to read a wiring diagram an asset.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as sheet metal forming, machining, plating, etc.;
  • Knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical assembly methods;
  • Knowledge of different measuring and inspection tools and their application;
  • Comfortable using technology in the workplace (E-mails, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.);
  • Communication skills in English (speaking, reading and writing) to communicate with 99% anglophone suppliers located outside of Quebec, on a daily basis;
  • Functional in French (verbal and written);
  • Creative with a strong analytical and problem solving ability;
  • Team focused, organized, shares and communicates ideas well
