Introduction

We are seeking a highly skilled Heavy Pump Fitter to join our team on a 7/7 roster, supporting water services operations in a mining environment. This role offers the opportunity to work with a leading iron ore producer, with the potential for permanency for the right candidate

What are you going to do 

As a Heavy Pump Fitter, you will be responsible for undertaking the following:

  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols and guidelines while performing tasks on water services equipment, identifying and mitigating potential safety hazards within the work environment
  • Diagnose and execute repairs on engines for Sykes & Tru Flow water transfer systems, including trailer-mounted and skid pumps
  • Install key engine components such as water pumps, fuel pumps, radiators, turbochargers, injectors, and fuel lines; perform valve adjustments, replace rocker cover gaskets, and rear main seals
  • Collaborate with team members to address engine-related issues efficiently and effectively
  • Diagnose and resolve faults in wet ends of pumps, ensuring operational efficiency; disassemble pumps, replace mechanical seals, and remove/replace faulty wet ends using forklifts and gantry cranes
  • Set up and maintain wet end tolerances accurately; install, align, and ensure proper coupling between pumps and engines
  • Troubleshoot and repair faults within pump control systems; identify issues with sensors (coolant temperature, speed, oil pressure, volute temperature, flow switches), diagnose wiring harness faults, and operate pumps through controllers such as Sykes S35 & S37, ComAp, and Tru Flow systems
  • Commission repaired pumps to confirm proper functionality, verify alignment and coupling, and ensure operational engine protections (low flow, high temperature, oil pressure, and coolant temperature)
  • Maintain and repair generators, including FG Wilson, Western Diesel, and PR Power models; replace essential components such as fuel pumps, water pumps, coolant sensors, radiators, alternators, belts, and mechanical lift pumps
  • Conduct load testing to validate the functionality and reliability of repaired equipment

Essential skills and knowledge 

Requirements:

  • Recognised mechanical trade certificate in Australia (Heavy Duty Fitter or Diesel Mechanic forHeavy Mobile Equipment)
  • Valid Driver's License (Minimum C Class but HR is highly desirable)
  • High-Risk Work License (Forklift, Basic Rigging)
  • Poly welding certificate
  • White Card
  • Previous experience working in the dewatering area
  • Experience with Sykes S35 & S37, ComAp, and Tru Flow systems
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety
