Introduction

Brunel is seeking a Senior OT Design Manager - SCADA & Control Systems to provide strategic input and technical leadership across key control system architecture projects. This part-time contract role supports a major public utility organisation and will shape the future of their OT automation platforms and design standards.

What are you going to do 

As a Senior OT Design Manager - SCADA & Control Systems, you will advise and support the full lifecycle design of complex automated control systems, with a focus on water utility operations. Your responsibilities include:

  • Leading SCADA and control system architecture planning

  • Developing and reviewing standard designs and software templates

  • Supporting process control strategies including cascade and constraint control

  • Advising on plant sequencing, chemical dosing control, and hydraulic system logic

  • Reviewing and updating OT and ISA-compliant design documentation

  • Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to long-term capability development

The position is part-time (15-22 hours/week) and ideal for a senior consultant or engineer with experience influencing OT outcomes in infrastructure environments.

Essential skills and knowledge 

You're a degree-qualified engineer with 15-20 years of experience in SCADA and control systems design. You have deep knowledge of ISA standards, software templating, system sequencing, process optimisation, and OT architecture design. Experience in plant automation for infrastructure, particularly water utilities, is highly regarded.

You'll be confident collaborating with multidisciplinary stakeholders, producing technical documentation, and advising on best practice standards in a high-compliance, safety-critical environment.

Clearances required: Police check, drug and alcohol screening, and standard employment checks.
